Keyword Research - My New Favorite Tools

Keyword research should be the primary activity of any website or blog owner who wants to be found via search engines. The challenge is to find keywords that have low to moderate competition alongside decent search volume. Well, I've been using some new tools to help me do this and let me give you a little taster of what happened to me this week.

I found a search term with 27,000 monthly searches (based on Google's estimates) and zero competition. By zero compeition, I mean no other website had the three strike metric:

- Exact phrase

- In URL

- In Title

This means that if I can create a page that is LSI keyword rich that has my exact phrase in the title, url, heading and webpage content, I am not only likely to be on the first page of Google but I am likely to be number 1 on Google.

So maybe I should stop gloating and tell you how I did it. First of all I used Keyword Ninja and entered a generic search term related to the niche I was researching. And the software created a keyword rich csv file of about 220 related keywords in about 2 minutes flat.

I downloaded the csv file to my computer and worked my way through them. When I saw one that looked like a buying term, I ran it through Micro Niche Finder 5 to see how many searches there were, how many exact matches (keyword only) an the strength of competition.

In less than an hour I had discovered 8 excellent keywords all with decent search volume and low competition but my eyes nearly popped out when I saw my gem - 27,000 monthly searches and zero competition, surely not.

So I ran my three footprint searches through Google and checked its keyword tool. Yep, the data all matched.

Not surprisingly, that keyword phrase got turned into a webpage pretty quickly (and LSI rich). And now I am waiting for it to get indexed by Google - and I have created a couple of backlinks just to help it on its way. I will let you know how I get on.

  13. This is a great tip for those starting out doing SEO for their website. Google has its own keyword tool, and it can even show where, in which countries, the keyword is searched the most. I think the best way is to try testing your keywords with more than one tool and then determine what phrases to optimize your website with. Wishing everyone the best of luck and success!
