Vook presents a powerful story by the undisputed Queen of Vampire Literature, Anne Rice. The Master of Rampling Gate is a chilling tale of vampiric seduction enhanced by seductive videos about vampires, the black plague, the gothic style, and Anne Rice herself.Set in the gasslit streets of 1888 London and the wild moors of the countryside beyond, The Master of Rampling Gate tells the story of Julie, a young woman who becomes obsessed with the house her father swore her and her brother to tear down upon his death. Julie can’t imagine what lies in wait at Rampling Gate, a spirit that haunted her father for years and now yearns for her flesh. The Master of Rampling Gate is a sublime love story in which Julie struggles to choose between the world of reason and rationality and the dark promises of a creature she is almost helpless to resist.Experience this rare Anne Rice short story as a Vook. Read AND watch the heart pounding tale as you take a journey back in time to the late 1800s, a world of endless nights, secret passions and the promise of dark and nameless pleasures.

The story, purely English, is typical of Anne Rice's style. She mixes old times and new times. She mixes historical dramatic times (the plague, the Black Death) with modern times. She also gives her vampires a loving and lovable side which makes them indestructible at least for sane human beings who do not see any reason to destroy someone or something in the fact that he or it is slightly different, and even a lot different. Here the trick is that in modern times it is a woman who is mesmerized by the vampire into guaranteeing his own safety in exchange for eternal life, or eternal damnation. We are far from Mona, the willing and agreeing victim who kills the vampire in the end out of mercy. The story then is in no way particularly outstanding. But the form of the tale, that of a comic book, is slightly more original for Anne Rice, though Interview with the Vampire and The Queen of the Damned have also been drawn into comic books. Then the originality comes from the artists this time and the result is quite interesting, though I do not find it that outstanding. I have seen better, even if I have also seen worse. In fact I believe Anne Rice is not graphic in her art because she is a marvelous storyteller. Her use of words and sentences is always great, but it takes a lot of graphic imagination to transpose this richness into visual transcendence. This comic book hasn't found that greatness.

The Master of Rampling Gate eBook Anne Rice Vook Vickie Williams Colleen Doran David Campiti Reviews

I'm a huge Anne Rice fan. My only real disappointment was that it was too short. I was not able to view the embedded videos on my but I was able to see them on my iPhone. I love this idea and it added a lot to the story. I loved all the background on New Orleans. My husband is from there and it has been my adopted home for 42 years. We live in northern Louisiana but I always love our visits home.
Very disappointing. Supposed to come with some type of little videos, which apparently is a feature my does not have. Would have been nice to know this before I purchased.
I love Anne Rice's writing and have read everything she's written. This book was over almost immediately as there was a great story building but left me hanging. There were also videos which might have contributed to the story but apparently my Fire didn't have the capability to open the videos even though I can download other videos. Just overall disappointed in this one.
This is the first short story that I have read by Anne Rice. Had never seen it or heard of it before I saw on . Took a try sine I am a major fan of her work. For a short read it was great, especially towards the end how she tied it in to her future stories. If you are a fan give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
Master of Rampling Gate is classic Anne Rice. Predictable and too short, but enjoyable for those of us who pounced on, and devoured each new installment of the Lestat series with such enthusiastic relish. I am pleased by the absence of the ponderous religious theory, which has permeated some of Rice's post-Lestat offerings, and applaud her return to the paranormal. I gave this offering four stars for a pleasant classic read rather than five, because of its brevity.
I'm not sure what I truly expected when I downloaded this story, but it was more than I could have imagined. I loved the story, although abbreviated and it left me wanting more detail, but only because like all of Anne's books it draws you in and makes you care. And then you add in the videos...ahhhhh. it all worked fine on the Fire HD. Worth it. The only drawback I found was it is only a very short story, but it isn't touted as a novel, so you should know before you buy it, so there is no trickery there.
I have loved Anne Rice's work ever since I first read about and fell in love with the mayfair Witches and Micheal so long ago.
the characters were so real for me that I did not need to be asked twice when my daughter asked me to join her on a trip to "Nola".We walked the garden district and it was almost a pilgrimage.
we were both devastsed shortly after when Nola and her people were struck by katrina .
I loved the Mayfair trilogy and have all 3 this will be my fisrt in a while ( loved " A Cry to Heaven as well ) because I have read the others so many times !!!
I have it safe on my and I am saving it for a long plane journey in August I rated the videos at this point and I am sure the book itself will not let me down !
